Apparitions (BBC-1 2008, Martin Shaw, Siobhan Finneran)

In Apparitions, Father Jacob is a Roman Catholic priest who finds himself drawn into the horrific world of exorcisms even though his main job is trying to promote candidates for Sainthood. His mentor though Monsignor Vinvenzo is the current Chief Exorcist of Rome and is keen for Jacob to take over with his own imminent retirement drawing near. Jacob too, also has a very natural talent for dealing with evil forces and is caught up in evil whether he wants to be or not.

The initial idea for this downright scary series came from lead player Martin Shaw, apparently he has always wanted to play an exorcist. Before the series even began it had come in for a lot of stick from various group because of some of the gruesomeness of the scenes featured in the series.

Guest stars included Shaun Dooley, Neil Peason, Elizabeth Berrington, Claudia Harrison, Vernon Dobtcheff and Cherie Lunghi
