Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams is a fine, quiet drama about a middle-aged woman (Joanne Woodward) who begins to dwell on childhood memories after the death of her mother (Sylvia Sidney) as she slowly works herself into a deep depression.
Her husband (Martin Balsam) tries to find the meaning in his life when he also explores the pasthis terrifying experiences during WWII.
Sylvia Sidney, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, was making her first theatrical screen appearance in 17 years when she agreed to appear in Gilbert Cates’s film.
