The Kidnapping of Michelle and Breea Renee Breea Renee, the daughter of Michelle Renee, a bank manager in Vista, California, was 7 years old when three masked gunmen stormed into their home in November 2000 and held them hostage for the night. Those men threatened their lives unless Michelle robbed the bank where she worked. The kidnappers threatened to blow them up with dynamite if Renee didn’t do as they said the next day.

She and her daughter’s survival depended on the $360,000 she withdrew from the bank. After the robbers made off with the cash, Renee hurried home to check on her daughter and immediately dialled 911. Officers who responded found the dynamite to be a hoax. The information Renee provides is crucial to solving the crime.

However, at trial, the ringleader falsely claimed Renee had planned the bank robbery and that the two had an affair. Reporter Tracy Smith of 48 HOURS talks to Renee about what happened and the pain she and her daughter have had to endure.
