Countryfile: Tamara Way (BBC One Sunday 14 January 2024)

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, BBC Two will air a new episode of “Countryfile” titled “Tamara Way” at 6:00 pm. In this episode, Charlotte Smith and Sammi Kinghorn venture to the West Country to explore the landscape, heritage, and wildlife highlights of a new 87-mile route called the Tamara Coast to Coast Way.

The Tamara Coast to Coast Way connects the north and south of Cornwall’s coastal paths for the first time. Charlotte starts her journey on the Devon side of the River Tamar, where she meets Will Darwall, one of the caretakers responsible for maintaining the route. She learns about why it was created and what it offers to those who travel along it.

As Charlotte continues her journey along the Tamara Way, she visits Morwenstow, a hamlet in Cornwall. Here, she helps repair a historic hut made from shipwrecked wood and discovers the fascinating story of its colorful resident, Rev Robert Hawker.

Meanwhile, Sammi is at Cotehele estate on the River Tamar, which has a history dating back 700 years. She joins a pair of local young rangers as they learn on-the-job tasks at this beautiful estate. Sammi gets involved in winter tasks in the estate’s heritage orchard and riverside wetland.

In addition to their explorations along the Tamara Way, Charlotte travels to Wales to investigate agricultural air pollution’s impact on nature. She visits a farm that is taking steps to reduce its ammonia emissions. Meanwhile, Adam Henson visits Knighton and attends a traditional livestock market where he meets Jenny Layton Mills, a trailblazer for women in agricultural auctioneering.
