Extraordinary Escapes With Sandi Toksvig: Eddie Izzard airs Wednesday 7 June 2023 on Channel 4.

Winner of numerous awards, the series is back. Sandi Toksvig, a national treasure and broadcaster, keeps the mood light as she and her travelling companions take in the splendour of the British Isles.

Sandi has plenty of time for off-the-cuff (or “off-duty”) chats and revealing conversation, whether she’s working on a historic restoration project, an architectural marvel, or a super-eco hideaway.

In the premiere episode, Sandi travels to Ireland with Eddie Izzard, a stand-up comedian, Hollywood actor, and marathon runner. The group visited the Emerald Isle and?They bond over apple crumble and fishing rods as Sandi takes them to three beautiful holiday retreats in Clare, Kerry, and Cork. Teeroneer is a miniature architectural marvel and their first rural retreat in County Clare.

Featuring a sunken kitchen where Sandi must cook and Eddie must put her foot down, this unconventional prize-winning property is clad in timber and is an Extraordinary Escapes first. The next stop on the Irish vacation is the breathtaking Ark Ranch Treehouse. Beautifully detailed and hand-built by a single woman, it transports Eddie and Sandi back to their own childhoods and fills them with a sense of wonder.

The beautiful landscape of the Emerald Isle is the perfect ending to their exciting journey. Both the mountains and the lakes of County Kerry seem to be under the spell of the chic and cosy Lost Cottage.This remote rental, which is a wonderful blend of modern conveniences and rustic charm, will serve as the starting point for Eddie’s first fishing expedition. This final location is so evocative of Ireland’s wild landscape that it leaves Sandi and Eddie gasping for air.
