Paul Hollywood Eats…: Episode 3 (S2EP3 Sunday 24 July 2022)
Paul Hollywood sets off on another culinary voyage of discovery to a country that is as yet a mystery to him: Mexico. Paul explores the character, culture and history of Mexico through its food and drink, from the sprawling megalopolis of Mexico City to the American border in Tijuana and the Caribbean coast in Cancun. Across his adventure, Paul samples fresh cactus, the country’s hottest chilli, the perfect taco, Michelin-quality street food and even a scorpion!
He visits a Mexican town obsessed with Cornish pasties and the world’s most extraordinary (and dangerous) firework festival. He also meets some of the country’s top chefs and learns how they take inspiration from the country around them – and its extraordinary history.
In this final episode, Paul concentrates on the drink for the final leg of his culinary voyage, and that includes booze, pop, soup, sauces – anything that doesn’t need chewing on the way down. Of course, Mexico is where chocolate was invented, and Paul learns that Mexicans prefer their chocolate in a steaming mug. He also discovers how hipster Americans have become obsessed with Mexican coca cola and the role sugary drinks play in health.
Paul also visits Mexico’s most celebrated mezcal distillery, before enjoying a night in a traditional cantina, where if you keep drinking, the free food keeps coming. Paul finishes his Mexican adventure in spectacular style, with a visit to the most extraordinary – and dangerous – firework festival on Earth.
