Predators Wild Dogs (Sky Nature Sunday 8 January 2022)

Predators airs a new episode tonight Sunday 8 January 2022 on Sky Nature.

Wild Dogs Northern Zimbabwe is home to a pack of African wild dogs, and one of their pups, Ghost, has just been born. Her mum, Violet, is the alpha female of this pack. Ghost and her sibling Cadiki are two of her six unique puppies.

Violet may be a gifted huntress, but she is still young and inexperienced, and only a few of her previous litters made it. She needs to stop making the same mistakes and start growing from them. Violet is in a precarious position because the pack as a whole is responsible for little Ghost’s well-being.

A lot of lions and hyenas live out on the floodplain where she goes hunting. Violet must tread carefully, as the larger animals pose a significant threat to her pups.

When Violet and a large group of hyenas come to blows, she has no choice but to take action. Because of how little and defenceless the puppies are, she abandons them beside the river and makes her way away. However, in the chaos, two of Violet’s brothers disappeared and are assumed dead.

The pack’s numbers are its greatest asset, thus losing any of them would be devastating. Now, more than ever, Violet must instil in Ghost and the other puppies the hunting abilities they’ll need to thrive. To ensure the survival of future generations of African Wild Dogs, they will need to quickly acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work together effectively.
