Secret Life of the Safari Park: Episode 3 (Channel 4 Thursday 18 January 2024)
In the upcoming third episode of “Secret Life of the Safari Park,” airing on Channel 4 on Thursday 18 January 2024 at 8:00pm, we are taken on another journey into the lives of some remarkable animals residing in Knowsley Safari Park.
The episode revolves around Meru, the middle-aged matriarch of a group of six South African white rhinos. Meru is being paired with a young bull named Shaka in hopes of breeding. The behavior displayed by Shaka during their interactions will serve as an indicator of whether Meru is still fertile. However, to the keepers’ surprise, Meru initially rejects Shaka’s advances. Despite this initial rejection, signs emerge that suggest Meru may indeed be pregnant. This development leaves the keepers curious and wondering if they are in for an unexpected surprise.
Another storyline focuses on baby Bobby, a baboon in the park. Keepers notice that Bobby can only fully open one of his eyes and suspect he may be partially blind. If this proves to be true, it could present challenges for Bobby as he grows older and tries to assert his independence within the group. A confrontation with one of the more aggressive young males underscores these concerns.
The episode also delves into M, an ostrich who has lost a toenail and now faces potential amputation to prevent further infection. The keepers grapple with this difficult decision as they strive to ensure M’s health and well-being.
Lastly, attention turns to Froja, an elderly elk living in Knowsley Safari Park. Froja requires a special diet due to her advanced age but finds her meals constantly stolen by fallow deer and bullying bison within the park. The challenge for the keepers lies in finding ways to prevent these food thefts from occurring so that Froja can receive proper sustenance.
“Secret Life of the Safari Park” continues its exploration into the fascinating world of animals within Knowsley Safari Park. Through this series, we get a unique glimpse into the intricacies of animal behavior, conservation efforts, and the challenges faced by both keepers and animals alike.
