What’s Happening on The Repair Shop Today Tuesday 15 November 2022 on BBC One
What’s Happening on The Repair Shop Today Tuesday 15 November on BBC One; Tony Douglas is the first person to arrive at the workshop. He brought the model yacht he built and went sailing with when he was a young boy. He is relying on his friend and fellow model toy enthusiast David Burville to be able and willing to get it back out on the water. Tony’s grandfather was the inspiration for his name, and he and his siblings enjoyed many happy times with him. Tony Sr. had a passion for all things nautical and was an accomplished craftsman who built both a full-sized yacht and a number of radio-controlled model yachts. The hull sprung a leak decades ago, the battery is on the fritz, and it has been collecting dust on a shelf ever since. Tony has wonderful memories of sailing the Kingfisher with him and would love to relive the experience with his son Charlie. Fortunately, David knows just how to make it operational once more.
When ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay receives a garden urn, or what’s left of one, she has her hands full! The large earthenware urn is a family heirloom for Adam Steward. The 1930s decorative item, one of a pair that Adam’s family has inherited, belonged to his great grandfather when it was first owned. Its demise occurred in the gardens of his grandparents, parents, and sister, where they had stood prominently. Adam is hoping against hope that Kirsten can save the broken urn after a garden wall fell on it. Unfazed, Kirsten methodically starts to recreate and replace any damaged parts of this enormous object. She asks silversmith Brenton West to assist with the process by putting the top bowl back together with the decorative base.
And finally, something for master hatter Jayesh Vaghela from aviation history. The leather pilot’s helmet Jo and George Ward are bringing was once worn by a courageous airman and the father of a close friend, who gave it to them knowing how useful it would be. The sheepskin-lined pilot’s helmet is the ideal piece of gear for keeping Jo’s head warm in the open-top vintage cars that Jo and George race for fun. The century-old hat, however, has kept them warm for more than 15 years and is now quite frail. The leather has become harder, the sheepskin is coming out in clumps, and the stitching is breaking down. Jayesh does wonders with this priceless and useful item.
