Survivor UK Meet The Contestants – Sabrina
Survivor UK premieres soon on BBC One so what better time to meet the contestants: Sabrina is 45 from Stroud and is an Ultramarathon Runner, Charity Founder, Author, Mum of 4 and Grandmother of 3.
Sabrina decided to become a contestant on Survivor because the show’s concept intrigued her. The idea of being on a tropical island, facing physical and mental challenges, and being completely cut off from the outside world was appealing to her.
She believed that her social skills, nurturing nature, and ability to rough it would be valuable qualities in the game. To prepare herself mentally and physically, she participated in two 300K off-road trail ultramarathons, including one in the remote Scottish highlands. She camped out, ate rations, and pushed herself to her limits both physically and mentally.
Sabrina’s strategy for the game was to avoid being seen as a threat. She wanted to downplay her personality, avoid taking a leadership role, and not be bossy. She aimed to be silent and fly under the radar.
While she is competitive, she is more focused on competing with herself rather than others. If she is on a team, she becomes the biggest cheerleader for her tribe, using her skills to uplift her teammates and fight for the cause she believes in.
Sabrina was most looking forward to agility challenges, puzzles, and any challenges that involved running or endurance. She thrives in these types of situations and enjoys pushing herself physically.
Living on a beach with no home comforts was not a problem for Sabrina. She adapted quickly and felt at home in that environment. However, she did have a fear of snakes and hoped to avoid encountering them during her time on the show.
As an ultramarathon runner, Sabrina has experienced hunger before. She once ran an 89K race in the Sahara desert with little more than a bag of mini-cheddars as her sustenance. Therefore, hunger was not an issue for her during her time on Survivor.
Being on the show taught Sabrina some valuable lessons. She learned to never change herself or dim her shine to make others comfortable. She embraces who she is and trusts her instincts. If something or someone feels off, she now knows to listen to that gut feeling.
Survivor UK begins soon on BBC One.
