Gunfighter, The (TCF 1950, Gregory Peck, Helen Westcott)
A famed gunfighter seeking peace and quiet visits his estranged wife and their small son. The sheriff, who is an old friend, warns the gunfighter that his presence is upsetting the town and it would be best if he moves on. But before he can, challengers seeking to make their own reputations come after him for a gunfight.
Although The Gunfighter received good reviews, the film did not perform well at the box office. Fox studio head Daryl F. Zanuck claimed the film failed because the audience did not want to see Gregory Peck wearing a “funny hat and mustache.
