The Macomber Affair is a wholly satisfying adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway story about a rich man (Robert Preston) who hires a professional game hunter (Gregory Peck) as a guide in Africa. The man’s wife (Joan Bennett) pursues the hunter with romantic intentions. She shoots her husband as he is charged by a buffalo and is then tried for his murder.
Except for background footage shot in Africa, the movie was primarily lensed on Hollywood soundstages, with the hunting scenes staged in the northern part of Baja, California.
