The Gunfight at Dodge City (1959, Joel McCrea, Julie Adams)
Joel McCrea stars as Bat Masterson, who takes over as the law in Dodge City when his brother is shot in the back. Egged on by girlfriend Pauline Howard (Julie Adams), he stands against corrupt sheriff Jim Regan (Don Haggerty) and soon brings his own justice against the bullies and criminals.
But as the climatic gunfight approaches, he realises that maybe Howard isn’t the right girl for him and perhaps saloon owner Lily (Nancy Bates) is. Joseph Newman’s Western is very much a B-movie but a superior one, with McCrea, who, along with Randolph Scott, was a Hollywood fixture in the genre without quite breaking into the big time, giving his usual dependable performance.
