Nick’s journey begins in Tangier, a city located at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Boarding the Al Boraq train, known for its impressive speed and efficiency along the high-speed line, Nick sets off towards his first destination. During his time onboard, he has the privilege of meeting Ghizlane Aaboud, an ONCF manager responsible for a sustainability program aimed at powering Morocco’s railways with renewable energy sources such as wind power. The ambitious goal is to make the entire railway system environmentally friendly within two years.

As Nick’s train makes a stop in Kenitra, he seizes the opportunity to visit a local fish market situated along the beautiful Atlantic coast. Here, he indulges in some of the freshest sardines available and witnesses their expert preparation by skilled cooks.

Arriving in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, Nick explores its old medina—a maze-like historic quarter—before joining a group of gnawa musicians. Through their music, which originated from West African slaves brought to Morocco centuries ago, Nick gains insight into this rich cultural tradition and even learns to play one of their traditional instruments.

Continuing his railway adventure southward along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Nick makes a stop in Salé—a city known for its piratical past—and then tries his luck at surfing. However, he finds himself humbled by a talented dog surfer who steals the show!

Next up is Casablanca where Nick visits Rick’s Café—a homage to the iconic Hollywood film—and immerses himself in its nostalgic ambiance. From there, he heads towards Berber country to experience the region’s famous mint tea and learn the art of cooking with an authentic Berber tagine pot.

The journey concludes in Marrakesh, where Nick stays at El Fenn, a luxurious hotel built around traditional Moroccan riads. Amidst the city’s vibrant energy, he takes part in a hammam steam bath—an integral part of Moroccan culture—and discovers its social significance as a hub for both business and pleasure.

To wrap up his adventure on a tranquil note, Nick embarks on a dawn balloon flight that offers breathtaking views of the rose-tinted Atlas Mountains and provides a glimpse into the vastness of Africa’s interior.
