“Black + Iconic” News Four Part Doco Series for BET

Emmy Award-winning Executive Producer Stanley Nelson and Firelight Films have unveiled their new four-part, eight-hour documentary film series Black + Iconic that will air on BET.

Black + Iconic, a revolutionary BET original series, honors the contributions of Black cultural heroes, pioneers, and activists while highlighting their lasting effect in the fields of fashion, music, film, and dance. Connie Orlando, Jason Samuels, and Steven Ramey (Senior Supervising Producer) created “Black + Iconic” for BET.

Black X Iconic: Style Gods, the first film in the series directed by Lynne Robinson, has cast actor, singer, director, producer, and activist Billy Porter to serve as narrator, host, and executive producer. Porter has won or been nominated for Emmys, Tony Awards, Grammy Awards, and the Golden Globe for his work in film and television. BET, BET Her, BET+, and VH1 will air the debut of “Black + Iconic: Style Gods” on Saturday, February 18 at 8 PM ET/PT.

Following in the footsteps of previous award-winning BET original documentaries “ALI: The People’s Champ” and “Katrina 10 Years Later: Through Hell and High Water,” the first project in the franchise kicks off with a two-hour film on fashion. Weaving dazzling archival footage and original interviews with legendary Black models, fashion designers, and style icons, “Black + Iconic: Style Gods” explores the myriad of ways Black people have overcome racism to ultimately blaze an undeniable trail from the streets through the most exclusive runways of high fashion.
