Blue Peter Welcomes its 42nd Presenter, Abby Cook
Abby, a 20-year-old from Grangemouth, has been announced by Blue Peter as their newest presenter alongside Mwaksy, Joel, and Henry the dog. Abby, a wheelchair user, will become the latest addition to the longest running children’s television show in the world. Her first live show is set to air on Friday 10 March on CBBC and BBC iPlayer at 5 pm.
Abby attended Grangemouth High School where she received straight A’s before studying Applied Biological Science at Forth Valley College. Her previous experience includes working with Valley Disability Sport and Scottish Disability Sport. Her interests include sports such as wheelchair racing and basketball. She stated, “I’m a big kid at heart and a bit of a thrill seeker.”
Abby has always been a fan of Blue Peter and was shocked when she found out she had been selected as the newest presenter. In an emotional moment, Abby said, “I was speechless when I found out… I would actually be presenting a show I love and had grown up with.”
Despite being less than keen on heights Abby is set to earn her Blue Peter Badge by abseiling down Millers Dale Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. On her first show, Abby will be showcasing her track skills and interacting with animals in the studio.
Ellen Evans, the Blue Peter Editor, said, “When Abby came to the studio, we knew she would be great for the show because she has an unstoppable ‘can do’ attitude.” Evans added, “She also has the biggest of hearts.”
Blue Peter is produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family and airs every Friday at 5 pm on CBBC and is available on BBC iPlayer.
