Doors Doco “When You’re Strange” Premieres February 1 on AXStv
On February 1 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, AXS TV will screen the debut of When You’re Strange, a documentary that has been nominated for an Emmy® and won a GRAMMY®.
The Doors’ When You’re Strange is a stunning immersion into their hypnotic universe. The film unearths rare and never-before-seen footage of the legendary rock band, shedding new light on the revolutionary influence of the band’s music and legacy. Tom DiCillo wrote and directed the film, Johnny Depp narrates, and famed producer Dick Wolf oversaw production.
The Doors are widely regarded as one of the most important and influential rock bands in American history thanks to the synergistic efforts of their four members: drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and singer Jim Morrison. The film uses footage shot between 1965 (when the band formed) and 1971 (when Morrison died) to trace the band’s journey from the halls of UCLA’s film school (where Manzarek and Morrison first crossed paths) to the stages of sold-out arenas.
Said Depp, “As a rock n’ roll documentary, or any kind of documentary for that matter, it simply doesn’t get any better than this.”
