FX’s “Great Expectations” Will Premiere This March on Hulu
FX have announced the launch date for Steven Knight’s limited series adaption of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.
The first two episodes of the six-part series from FX and BBC will debut on Hulu on March 26 exclusively in the United States. The BBC is involved in the production of Great Expectations and will air the show in the United Kingdom. Star+ in Latin America will stream the show first, followed by Disney+’s Star service.
Miss Havisham, one of literature’s most recognizable figures, is seen in the new trailers ensnaring Pip and Estella in the wedding veil she never took off. The prison ship and manacles that brought Magwitch to Pip at the start of Dickens’ renowned Great Expectations are also caught in Miss Havisham’s bitter web, along with the crumbling Satis House and the clocks that were stopped at 20 minutes to nine.
The protagonist of Great Expectations, Pip, is an orphan who wishes for a better life until he is exposed to the nefarious schemes of the mysterious and eccentric Miss Havisham. Pip, burdened by the weight of high expectations, must decide whether or not this new life will help him become the man he aspires to be. Published in 1861 after being serialized in weekly installments beginning in December 1860, Dickens’ work is a scathing satire of the social stratification of Victorian England.
Fionn Whitehead stars as “Pip,” leading a stellar cast featuring Olivia Colman as “Miss Havisham,” Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle, Laurie Ogden, Rudi Dharmalingam, Tom Sweet, Chloe Lea, and Matt Berry.
Knight serves as writer, and also executive producer alongside Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker, and Kate Crowe. Brady Hood and Samira Radsi serve as directors. Great Expectations is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free, and Hardy Son & Baker.
