Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends, 25 April Premiere, Sky Arts
Get ready to dive into the secrets and stories of rock and roll with Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends, a fascinating new series that takes audiences on a joyful journey through the decades of music. Hosted by AC/DC singer Brian Johnson and Dire Straits singer/guitarist Mark Knopfler, this 6-part series offers exclusive access to once-in-a-lifetime meetings, interviews, and jam sessions between rock’s ultimate legends.
In each episode, Brian and Mark sit down with music royalty as they share their knowledge, experiences, and the tracks that shaped their careers. From Sir Tom Jones to Nile Rodgers, these iconic names discuss their earliest influences and captivating stories from their time in the industry. Meanwhile, Mark and Brian provide insight into their own musical lives, creating a rich tapestry of shared experiences.
The first episode features an encounter with the legendary Sir Tom Jones. During their conversation, he shares enchanting stories from his career, including his friendship with none other than Elvis Presley himself. It sets the tone for what is sure to be an intriguing exploration of music history.
Episode two sees Brian and Mark visiting Mark’s very own British Grove recording studio where they meet up-and-coming UK singer-songwriter Sam Fender. Sam recounts his musical journey thus far while also discussing how both Brian and Mark have influenced him as artists. He even shows them how to play his hit song “Seventeen Going Under.”
Moving on to episode three, the duo meets up with 80s icon Cyndi Lauper at New York’s renowned recording studio The Power Station. Cyndi opens up about her tumultuous career in the music industry before teaching Brian and Mark a special arrangement of her classic hit “True Colors” using her dulcimer.
Next stop: Miami! In episode four, Brian and Mark connect with disco legend Nile Rodgers. They delve into his impressive musical career spanning Studio 54, collaborations with David Bowie and Daft Punk, and more. Nile and Mark even treat viewers to an exclusive “Johnny Cash version” jam session of Chic’s disco classic “Good Times.”
California is the destination for episode five as Brian and Mark visit Carlos Santana. The legendary guitarist recounts his incredible journey in music, from his early days to his iconic performance at Woodstock and his resurgence in the late ’90s. Together, they jam on a mesmerizing rendition of “Black Magic Woman,” and Carlos shares some of his biggest hits.
Finally, our hosts head to Music City – Nashville – where they meet Emmylou Harris, a longtime friend and collaborator of Mark’s. Emmylou reflects on her career highlights while discussing her relationship with country rock pioneer Gram Parsons. To top it off, they’re joined by country music superstar guitarist Vince Gill for an exclusive jam session.

Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends was commissioned by Phil Edgar-Jones for Sky Arts and Entertainment. Produced by Somethin’ Else TV, this series will be available on Sky Arts starting from April 25th.
