On Sunday, April 7, ITV1 presents the fifth episode of the darkly comic thriller “Passenger,” starring Wunmi Mosaku and David Threlfall and created by actor Andrew Buchan. In this installment the investigation takes several intriguing turns as the truth about Eddie comes to light and new layers of mystery are uncovered.

Kane finds herself in the hot seat as Riya subjects her to intense questioning. However, Linda has her own ideas about how police time should be spent, potentially creating friction within the team. Ali and Nish, gaining confidence as amateur detectives, follow in Mehmet’s footsteps and stumble upon unexpected twists that deepen the enigma.

Lilly, driven by her curiosity, confronts her father about his violent past, leading to a tense face-off in the forest where Jim unexpectedly becomes a pivotal player. Meanwhile, a confession from Nina Karlsson changes the course of the investigation, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

“Passenger” is set in the tight-knit community of Chadder Vale, a fictional town on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border.

The series follows Detective Inspector Riya Ajunwa, played by Wunmi Mosaku, a former Met Police detective who finds herself bored with small-town life and yearning for a challenging case. One night, local girl Katie Wells goes missing, and her car is found abandoned with traces of blood. However, the town is baffled when Katie reappears the next day, safe and sound.

As Riya, an outsider to the Chadder Vale way of life, her instincts tell her that something is amiss. She suspects a connection between Katie’s disappearance and a series of strange happenings, including a dead stag on the forest road and other young people going missing. With a fracking site, an old tree on the town’s outskirts, and the return of Katie’s father, Eddie Wells, from prison, Riya finds herself drawn into a web of secrets and lies.

“Passenger” boasts a stellar cast, with Wunmi Mosaku leading the way as the formidable and determined Detective Riya Ajunwa. Mosaku, a BAFTA-winning actress known for her roles in “‘Loki’ and “Luther,” brings depth and nuance to the role. She is joined by David Threlfall as the mysterious Jim Bracknell, who lives on the fracking site, and Jo Hartley as Chief Constable Linda Markel.

The cast also includes Rowan Robinson as the enigmatic Katie Wells, Barry Sloane as Eddie Wells, Natalie Gavin as Joanne Wells, and Daniel Ryan as the affable local bread factory owner, Derek Jackson. With a mix of seasoned actors and rising stars, the show delivers compelling performances that bring the story to life.

“Passenger” marks the screenwriting debut of actor Andrew Buchan, known for his roles in “Broadchurch” and “The Crown.” Buchan’s upbringing in Bolton inspired the series, and he wanted to capture the unique humor and reactions of northern towns faced with extreme situations. The series is produced by Northern Sister, part of the Sister group, which has also produced hit dramas like “This Is Going to Hurt” and “Chernobyl.”
