The Repair Shop Series 13 Premiere, 10 April 2024, BBC One
In the season premiere of the heartwarming restoration show The Repair Shop, viewers will witness a range of cherished items being revived and their precious memories restored.
In the first episode of Series 13, airing on BBC One on Wednesday 10 April, the team welcomes a variety of guests with unique and meaningful possessions. Each item holds a special place in their owner’s hearts, and the team is dedicated to bringing them back to life.
First through the barn doors are Diane Wynell-Sutherland and her nephew. They bring a pair of tiny cowboy boots with a touching story. The boots were bought by Diane’s brother, Roger Pope, a talented drummer who collaborated with the likes of Elton John. Roger’s musical journey took him from local bands to performing with superstars in the USA, and the boots are a reminder of his affection for his nephew. With the leather brittle and soles split, expert cobbler Dean works his magic to ensure the boots can be worn again, preserving Roger’s memory.
Next, Mehmet and his daughter Ozlem seek help for a treasured saz, a traditional Turkish instrument. Mehmet acquired the saz during his teenage years in the midst of tensions between Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus in the 1960s. The saz provided comfort and respite during turbulent times. Now damaged, with a significant crack, it’s up to expert luthier Julyan Wallis to carefully mend it, ensuring it remains a cherished heirloom for generations.
The episode also features Caroline Caldwell, who brings in a set of linen industry scales used to weigh threads. With a deep connection to the once-booming linen industry in Belfast, Caroline seeks the expertise of Steve Fletcher to address missing pieces and stuck drawers, restoring the scales’ functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Additionally, mother-and-daughter duo Mal and Jo McKenna arrive with a Murano lamp passed down through the generations. With the adhesive deteriorating and the lamp on the brink of irreparable damage, it’s up to Kirsten Ramsay and Mark Stuckey to carefully dismantle, clean, and reassemble the lamp, ensuring every piece aligns perfectly.
The Repair Shop continues to showcase the restoration of beloved items, preserving not just objects but the memories and emotions they embody.
The Repair Shop airs on BBC One at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, 10 April 2024.
