Varney & Co. and Kudlow Hit 21 Month Winning Streak for FOX Business Network
According to Nielsen Media Research, the top two business news shows for the month of November were FOX Business Network’s (FBN) Kudlow (weekdays, 4 PM/ET) and Varney & Co. (weekdays, 9 AM-12 PM/ET). The two shows in question have, for the last twenty-one months, been the most popular on the business ranking. The Bottom Line, a newly launched evening program with Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy, and FBN’s critical pre-market program Mornings with Maria, hosted by Maria Bartiromo (weekdays, 6-9 AM/ET), both surpassed the competition for four consecutive months. The network also had no less than four business day programs that were ranked in the top twenty by business news viewers.
Larry Kudlow’s namesake show, Kudlow, dominated business news ratings for the 26th month in a row, drawing in more viewers than any other business news program on television. With 279,000 viewers, the show outperformed CNBC’s Closing Bell by 49%. With 256,000 viewers, an 18% advantage (CNBC: 217,000 viewers), FBN’s three-hour market-open program Varney & Co. has beaten Squawk on the Street for 21 consecutive months. For the fourth consecutive month, Maria Bartiromo’s Mornings with Maria—which airs first thing in the morning and covers pre-market news—had an average of 116,000 viewers, 5% more than CNBC’s Squawk Box.
Making Money with Charles Payne (weekdays 2 PM/ET; 140,000 viewers), The Claman Countdown (weekdays 3 PM/ET; 154,000 viewers), The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (weeknights 5 PM/ET; 162,000 viewers), Coast to Coast with Neil Cavuto (weekdays 12-1PM/ET; 164,000 viewers), and The Big Money Show (weekdays 1 PM/ET; 132,000 viewers) were all in the top 15 business television shows in terms of total viewers. For four months in a row, Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy’s The Bottom Line outperformed CNBC’s Mad Money with Jim Cramer by 5%.
Nine out of the top twenty cable news programs with a median income in the 25-54 demographic in November belonged to FBN. This month, shows like Barron’s Roundtable (airing Fridays from 7:30 to 8 PM/ET), Mornings with Maria, Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street (airing Fridays from 7 to 7:30 PM/ET), Kudlow, The Big Money Show, The Evening Edit, Making Money with Charles Payne, and The Claman Countdown all had audiences with incomes of $125,800 or more.
