Who Do You Think You Are? Australia Returns to SBS This May
In the upcoming season of Who Do You Think You Are? Australia, eight well-known Australians—among them Barry Humphries, Jenny Brockie, Derryn Hinch, and Rhonda Burchmore—will take viewers on a globe-spanning adventure that eventually brings them back home and a deeper understanding of themselves.
In the first installment of the new season, Barry Humphries looks into a royal scandal in his father’s ancestry and discovers the great mystery of his maternal family history. In the second episode, Jenny Brockie goes on an emotional journey to solve the riddle of her father’s ancestry and discovers shocking secrets buried in her mother’s family tree.
In the third episode, Derryn Hinch learns the shocking truth about his father’s family’s wartime survival tale and the identity of his mother’s biological father. In the fourth installment, Rhonda Burchmore learns the truth about the maternal grandfather she never met and the fascinating tale of a businessman who left Sydney with an incredible legacy.
Stephen Page’s journey into his mother Doreen’s family history will lead him on an emotional and unexpected turn in the fifth episode. In the sixth episode, Peter Helliar learns about a Gallipoli veteran on his mother’s side who was profoundly affected by the war, as well as an Irish rogue and a thrilling connection to an AFL pioneer on his father’s side.
Kerry Armstrong will look for hints about her own personality in episode seven, and she’ll find a family tree full of strong, independent women who weren’t hesitant to fight for what they believed in. In the season finale, John Waters will find a maternal ancestor at the centre of colonial Caribbean history and accept the working-class radicals in his father’s family.
The series returns Tuesday 2 May at 7.30pm on SBS.
