Yesterday’s “Retro Electro Workshop”; Super-Fixer Rob Howard Revives Timeless Electronic Machines
Retro Electro Workshop is a brand new 10 part UKTV original series commissioned for Yesterday. It is an educational doco series about the vanishing art of mending electronics, and it features master-fixer Rob Howard, one of the last remaining full-time repairers of retro-electronic items in the UK. Hall of Mirrors, who produced Myleene Klass: Miscarriage & Me for UKTV, is behind the project, with Tim Green serving as executive producer.
There used to be an electronics repair shop on every street in Britain. Many consumer electronics produced between the 1930s and the 1980s were designed to be serviced and used forever. Expert repairman Rob Howard and his team of specialists and enthusiasts are prepared to track down “anything old with a plug on it” and give it new life, be it a classic American jukebox, a retro pinball machine, a boombox, or a vintage radio. Shamil and his father T own a vintage electronics shop, and they frequently send Rob their most valuable finds for restoration and resale.
Yesterday’s channel director, Gerald Casey, said, “We’re delighted to bring Retro Electro Workshop to Yesterday. I’m sure our viewers will be fascinated to see Rob and his team bringing these timeless electronic machines back to life.”
Emile Nawagamuwa, UKTV commissioning executive, added, “Retro Electro Workshop opens the door into a forgotten world full of nostalgia, technical ingenuity and design innovation. Nobody is better equipped to guide us down this rabbit-hole than master repairer Rob Howard. We are hugely excited to work once again with Hall of Mirrors on this original series.”
Tim Green, CEO, Hall of Mirrors commented, “Rob is an inspiration and it’s great to be working with UKTV on a series that takes us into the world of retro electronics. We hope everyone will fall in love with these ingenious gadgets and the art of fixing things.”
Retro Electro Workshop is commissioned for UKTV by Emile Nawagamuwa, commissioning executive, with Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning, and ordered by Gerald Casey, channel director for Yesterday.
