Celebrity PopMaster TV: Ken Bruce Returns with Famous Faces, 13 May on Channel 4
The legendary radio DJ presents two celebrity specials of the hit music quiz, with contestants including Toyah Willcox, Richard Blackwood, and Kimberley Wyatt.
Celebrity PopMaster TV returns to More4 and Channel 4 with two celebrity specials, hosted by the legendary radio DJ Ken Bruce. The specials air as part of the second series of the hit music quiz, which has been supersized to 16 episodes.
The celebrity specials will see a host of famous faces put their music knowledge to the test, competing to become Celebrity PopMaster champions. The line-up includes Toyah Willcox, Richard Blackwood, Sally Lindsay, MistaJam, Kimberley Wyatt, Jean Johansson, Nish Kumar, Gareth Malone, Nikki Fox, and Claire Richards.
In each episode, five contestants go head-to-head through a series of knockout rounds, testing their knowledge of chart-topping facts and stats. The rounds include ‘Intros, Middles and Ends’, ‘Video Gaga’, ‘Pop Years’, and ‘It’s Only Words’, with two players progressing to the ‘Original PopMaster’ round. The winner must then tackle a ‘3 in 10’ challenge to take home the coveted PopMaster gold disc.
The first series of PopMaster TV, which aired in 2023, was a huge success, elevating More4 to the number one digital channel on weekdays at 8 pm. The series averaged an audience of 760,000 viewers, an impressive increase of 565% on the slot average.
Ken Bruce, who has presented the radio version of PopMaster for 25 years, shared his enthusiasm for bringing the quiz to television: “After playing PopMaster on the radio for 25 years, it was a joy to work with Channel 4 and 12 Yard to finally bring it to TV screens… PopMaster TV was brilliant fun and I’m thrilled we get to do it again but with more than double the episodes to put even more music lovers, and some celebs, to the ultimate pop trivia test.”
Jo Street, Channel 4’s Head of Daytime and Features, added: “As we hoped they would, our More4 audience really embraced and loved PopMaster TV and I am chuffed to bits that it’s coming back for a longer run. It’s a dream working with the supremely talented Ken Bruce, Phil Swern and the team at 12 Yard to bring this fantastic format from radio to television.”
Celebrity PopMaster TV promises to deliver a fun and competitive twist to the beloved quiz, with celebrities facing the music and testing their trivia skills.
Celebrity PopMaster TV airs on More4 and Channel 4, with the first celebrity special on 13 May 2024.
