This Man Craig (BBC Drama, John Cairney)
Drama series This Man Craig told stories of Scottish comprehensive school teacher Ian Craig (John Cairney) as he taught kids in the town of Strathaird. The series dealt with the everyday issues affecting both staff and pupils at Strathaird but in particular the idealistic Craig who taught science.
Only one episode is known to be still in existence in the BBC archives. The opening sequence showed Craig driving over the Forth Road Bridge, which had only just been completed at the time. The real life settings for the school were Glasgow’s Bellahouston Academy and Glenwood School.
There were more than a few well known names popping up in guest roles including the likes of Bob Hoskins, John Paul, Kara Wilson, Patrick Troughton, Judy Parfitt, Francesca Annis, Patricia Brake, Frazer Hines, Isla Blair, John Laurie, James Grout, Alex Norton and Jean Alexander.
Writers included such stalwarts as David Turner, Bill MacIlwraith, Jack Ronder, Ray Jenkins, James Mitchell, Ian Kennedy Martin and Jack Gerson.
