Three Up Two Down (BBC-1 1985-1989, Michael Elphick, Angela Thorne)

In popular sitcom Three Up Two Down Sam Tyler (Michael Elphick) moves into the basement flat of the house owned by his son Nick (Ray Burdis) and his wife Angie only to discover that Angie has also agreed to give the flat to her mother, Daphne Trenchard (Angela Thorne).

The quartet eventually agree to a compromise with Sam and Daphne sharing the basement flat. Of course in best Odd Couple fashion Daphne and Sam are very different. Whereas Daphne loathes Sam and finds him course and vulgar. Sam on the other hand very quickly falls in love with the haughty Daphne.
