Bergerac: Unlucky Dip (BBC-1 1 Nov 1981, with Prunella Scales, Jack Galloway)

In Unlucky Dip Jim is trailing a suspected drugs courier, Raymond Dumoiter, from Paris back to Jersey via the Hydrofoil, unfortunately the mark spots the surveillance crew waiting on the quayside and tries to make a run for it. Once caught he is found to be completely clean but Jim is 100% certain that he saw Dumoiter make the pick up.

It turns out that Dumoiter was indeed carrying but was robbed on enroute by Simon Gibbons who thinks that selling it on the island could be the answer to his mother’s money problems. Unfortunately for Simon the people who the drugs belong to don’t play nice and are very keen to get their “merchandise” back.

Jim needs to track down Simon before the villains do or it could get messy.

Meanwhile Jim also has to contend with the fact that he has another medical coming up, if the result doesn’t go his way he will be off the force. Unfortunately bringing down the bad guys means he doesn’t make it to the appointment in time.

There is an an excellent performance from a cast against type Prunella Scales as Simon’s alcoholic mother as well as an appearance from Jack Galloway as local heavy Bobby Carnegie.
