What can we expect from this episode
IRRECONCILABLE: Natalie Sands endures unimaginable suffering. Her mother and her five-year-old son were murdered by a crazed man four years ago. After setting fire to Natalie, the assailant nearly succeeded in killing her as well. She was horribly burned, and the scars will remain forever. The mental anguish she has been through is much more excruciating than the physical pain she has experienced.
For 60 MINUTES, Nine’s Dimity Clancey describes how Natalie’s suffering is exacerbated by two facts she cannot accept. The criminal is at large because of his or her mental illness. What’s worse is that he’s her dad. Reporter: Dimity Clancey / Producer: Garry McNab
THE BATTLE OF BRITNEY: Britney Spears’s recently released tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, is a must-read for anyone wanting a crash course in the perils of celebrity. It’s an eye-opening look at a troubled pop star’s life. The former “America’s Sweetheart” describes being harassed, exploited, and humiliated by nearly everyone she knew as a young woman, including her loved ones.
It is hoped that Britney will feel relieved and, more importantly, that she will be able to start over after so many years of turmoil now that she has revealed the darker side of her life’s battle. Reporter: Tom Steinfort / Producer: Naomi Shivaraman
RARE OPPORTUNITY: There is a hidden cache of what appears to be regular beach sand a few hundred kilometres north of Perth. It doesn’t look like anything worth paying attention to. It’s just not sand. It’s a mountain of cash, actually, consisting of over a billion dollars’ worth of rare and valuable heavy metal minerals.
We didn’t care that Australia has a lot of these “rare earth” minerals until recently. However, China has long recognised the strategic importance of this material, and the country has been stockpiling and refining it to produce defence weapons. According to Nine’s Christine Ahern, this has caused widespread concern. Reporter: Christine Ahern / Producer: Laura Sparkes
60 Minutes is a popular Australian current affairs program based on the U.S. version of the same name. Featuring many noted Australian journalists over the years, the current presenters include Liam Bartlett, Tara Brown, Liz Hayes and Peter Overton.
