60 Minutes Australia, 5 May 2024, Channel 9, “No Warning, No Chance” and “A Beautiful Mind”
In this week’s episode of 60 Minutes, the show delves into the dangers of dating apps and explores the inspiring story of a young woman with a remarkable memory.
In “No Warning, No Chance,” journalist Amelia Adams investigates the tragic case of Dannielle Finlay-Jones, a victim of domestic violence. Finlay-Jones met her attacker, Ashley Gaddie, on a dating app. Gaddie, a 33-year-old tradie with a history of violence against women, was out on bail at the time. The episode highlights the dangers of dating apps and the importance of being aware of potential red flags. It serves as a cautionary tale, urging viewers to be vigilant and informed when using these platforms.
The second story, “A Beautiful Mind,” introduces us to 18-year-old Emily Nash, one of the youngest people in the world with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM). Nash, from Canada, can recall every day of her life in extreme detail. She describes her condition as a “superpower,” but it also comes with challenges, as she is unable to forget painful memories. Nash’s story offers hope for Alzheimer’s patients, as scientists believe that studying her unique brain may provide clues to better understand and treat memory-related conditions.
The episode explores the fascinating world of HSAM, a condition that only around 100 people are known to have. It’s a rare form of memory that allows individuals to vividly recall personal experiences and events from their past. While Nash’s memory is extraordinary, it also has its drawbacks, as she struggles to forget traumatic events.
60 Minutes Australia airs on Channel 9 at 8:40 pm on Sunday, 5 May 2024.
