Today’s broadcast of “CBS Mornings” was anchored by Tony Dokoupil, who was on the ground in Maui to report on the terrible cost of the  wildfires and their aftermath. Dokoupil discussed the situation in Lahaina and the ongoing search for victims with Hawaii’s governor, Josh Green. Dokoupil also spoke with Oprah Winfrey, a resident of the island part-time, about her efforts to comfort and aid victims.

Carter Evans and Jonathan Vigliotti, reporters for CBS News, also participated in today’s show. Evans discussed Mick Fleetwood’s charitable work in the Maui area with the Fleetwood Mac drummer and co-founder. Fleetwood has called Maui home for decades. His restaurant in Lahaina was among the hundreds of businesses destroyed — but he told CBS Newscorrespondent Carter Evans that he is committed to helping rebuild the community: “This is my home.”

Javier Barberi lost one of his businesses in the fires that have devastated Maui — and told Dokoupil that he was only able to locate it “based on the Banyan tree” across the street “because every single thing was completely decimated as far as the eye can see.”
