Emergency: Season 2 Premiere airs Tuesday 15 August 2023 on Channel 4.
What is this episode about
This groundbreaking series explores how London’s network of primary trauma centres treats critically injured patients across the city. Major trauma survival rates in London have increased by 50 percent thanks to a world-first network of hospitals, air ambulances, and paramedics called the London Major Trauma System.
From life-saving interventions at the scene of an accident to A&E critical care, from state-of-the-art surgery to painstaking rehabilitation, Emergency is a documentary series that follows trauma teams as they treat the most serious cases, minute by minute. A 49-year-old pedestrian named Paiwand is trapped under a lorry in south London, so the air ambulance, paramedics, and fire crews are called to the scene.
Time is of the essence in saving his life from his crush injuries. But before they can rescue Paiwand, fire crews must first remove the 29-ton HGV. Alicia, a 13-year-old girl, has a huge open wound on the back of her upper leg after she crashed an electric scooter into a lamppost. And 84-year-old Ralph, who fell at home and broke his femur, is at St. Mary’s Hospital, facing complex surgery with only a 50-50 chance of survival.
Continues tomorrow. This is the first of a four-part series, all of which will be made available for streaming after the first episode has aired.
