It’s time for the Brit Awards’ semi-final round! The MUAs will be working against the clock and under pressure this week, as they have four picky celebrities whose looks must be spot-on before they face the horde of paparazzi.

Hector Espinal, make-up artist to stars like Rihanna and Halle Bailey, has flown in as a guest judge to keep an eye on the MUAs and step in if the looks don’t meet his or the stars’ standards.

One MUA inspires confidence in her pink princess client throughout the makeover, and the client leaves the chair feeling like a million bucks, while another MUA’s frank discussion of the many times they’ve sat in the red chair causes the client some anxiety.

One of the MUAs messes up before the star even makes it out onto the red carpet, and Hector is called in to fix it.

The next day, with photos of the stars appearing online and in print, the Glow Up judges discuss which makeup artists fell short of their expectations.

The MUAs’ semi-final creative brief calls for them to create looks that highlight their best work to date. Two MUAs use their uni projects as a last-ditch effort to win over the judges and take home the top prize. Another person re-creates a look that was popularised by YouTuber Nikkie Tutorials, who used it as inspiration for her own Halloween costume. And one MUA combines their loves of hairdressing and cosmetics.

After the judges have deliberated, two MUAs will compete in the elimination round known as the Face-Off, where they will each have thirty seconds to create a spider lash. The judges have a very difficult decision to make, as the stakes are high for a spot in the final.

Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star is a competition to look for the next big make-up star of tomorrow. Tapping into the huge online passion for extreme make-up transformations, the series will see a talented cast of hopefuls live and work together as they attempt to prove their potential to industry professionals from a multitude of worlds from fashion to film. With regular eliminations, the challenges will not only test their skills under pressure but also give them the opportunity to unleash their creative vision with jaw-dropping results.
