Great British Railway Journeys: Bradford to Hebden Bridge airs Friday 23 June 2023 on BBC 2.

What can we expect from this episode

Michael Portillo visits Bradford, Shipley, and Hebden Bridge to continue his postwar travels through northwestern England.

Bradford native and author of “An Inspector Calls” J.B. Priestley makes an appearance as Michael walks through the city’s Centenary Square. Michael visits the Bradford Royal Infirmary and finds out about the institute’s groundbreaking work in the field of chemotherapy and the development of new drugs to combat the disease’s spread.

Michael finds a nature reserve in the middle of a car park just north of Bradford at Shipley station, which is home to more than 14 species of butterfly and moth. The Calder Valley Line brings Michael to the picturesque Hebden Bridge station, a former mill town that is now a popular destination for many same-sex couples.
