Winter Walks: Adrian Chiles (9 May on BBC Four)
In this one-off documentary, broadcaster Adrian Chiles reflects on his mental health and attention deficit disorder (ADD) diagnosis while walking along the beach.
Adrian is walking around Scarborough on the Yorkshire Coast with only a 360-degree camera for company.
He begins his journey at the windswept Scalby Ness, where he meets craft-recycling beachcombers, before making his way to Scarborough Castle and the mighty headland.
Adrian ponders humanity’s time on earth as he gazes out over North and South Bay from the vast headland with its historic Bronze and Roman settlements.
Adrian pauses for quiet contemplation and discusses the importance of his Catholic faith while visiting St Mary’s Church. Before heading to the old town, he pays a visit to Anne Bronte’s final resting place to express his gratitude for the inspiration she provided through her writing.
Adrian is energised and charmed by a group of female swimmers bracing the February North Sea as they head out for a swim on the final stretch of the beach.
Winter Walks – Adrian Chiles is a co-commission by BBC Four and BBC England. It has been produced by Atypical.
Airdate: Monday 9 May 2022 at 7.30pm on BBC Four.
