On Thursday May 9, A&E airs a new episode of After the First 48 called “Raw Deal” focusing on the killing of rapper Chucky Trill.
On March 5, 2021, 33-year-old rapper Chucky Trill, whose real name was Corey Detiege, was shot and killed while driving on Interstate 85 in Norcross, Georgia. He was in town for the NBA All-Star Weekend and was returning from a nightclub when the shooting occurred.
Nine months after the shooting, a suspect, 34-year-old James Edward Thomas, was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of malice murder.
During the trial, prosecutors established that Thomas had followed a precise route, mirroring the route taken by Detiege and his friends on the night of the shooting. They also presented evidence of Thomas threatening Detiege over text message.
In April 2023, Thomas was convicted of malice murder, aggravated assault, and using a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus a consecutive 105 years.
The First 48: After the First 48 – Raw Deal airs on A&E at 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
