Crime Drama “Swift Street”, SBS Premiere, April 24
A new crime drama series set in the heart of Melbourne, SBS’s Swift Street, is set to premiere April 24.
Rising star Tanzyn Crawford and Hollywood actor Cliff Curtis lead an incredible cast as Robert and Elsie, a dysfunctional father-daughter duo. The ensemble also includes Keiynan Lonsdale, Eliza Matengu, Bernie Van Tiel, and Alfred Chuol.
Swift Street is the brainchild of Tig Terera, with episodes directed by Nicholas Verso and executive production by Lois Randall of Magpie Pictures.
Filmed in the vibrant cultural hub of inner-city Melbourne, Swift Street serves as a love letter to Tig’s hometown. The story revolves around Elsie (Tanzyn Crawford), a street-smart 21-year-old who teams up with her hustler father Robert (Cliff Curtis) to save him from a dangerous crime boss (Eliza Matengu) and pay off his debt.
As they navigate their complicated relationship as father and daughter, Elsie and Robert find themselves embarking on daring heists to stay one step ahead. Along the way, Elsie must navigate her romantic life between her high school sweetheart Tatenda (Alfred Chuol) and her growing attraction to Aisha (Bernie Van Tiel). She also uncovers shocking secrets about her friend Tom (Keiynan Lonsdale).
SBS Head of Scripted Julie Eckersley describes Swift Street as a fresh addition to Australian television: “It’s a great story that takes audiences on a really fun ride.”
Creator and director Tig Terera emphasizes the personal connection behind Swift Street: “It’s set in the multicultural inner-Melbourne community that I live in and love.”
The series will make its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes International Television Series Festival, Canneseries. It will be available to stream on SBS On Demand with subtitles in five languages: Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
Swift Street is a Magpie Pictures production for SBS with major investment from Screen Australia in association with SBS. The project also received support from VicScreen and Screen NSW. Fifth Season is managing international sales for the series.
All eight episodes of Swift Street will be available to stream for free on SBS On Demand starting April 24th. Double episodes will air each Wednesday at 8:30 pm on SBS television.
