First-Look: Ruth Wilson and Daryl McCormack Star in BBC’s ‘The Woman in the Wall’ – A Gripping Gothic Thriller Coming Soon to BBC One
BAFTA winner Ruth Wilson (Mrs Wilson, The Affair, Luther) stars in the new 6×60′ gothic thriller The Woman in the Wall, written and created by Joe Murtagh (Calm with Horses) and produced by the BBC and SHOWTIME. BAFTA nominee Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You Leo Grande, Peaky Blinders, Bad Sisters) also stars. Motive Picture, a British independent production company, with funding from Fifth Season, created the show. The fictional drama series deftly explores the repercussions of The Magdalene Laundries, one of Ireland’s most shocking scandals.
What is The Woman In The Wall About
Lorna Brady (Wilson), a resident of the Irish village of Kilkinure, discovers a body in her home one morning. Even more unsettling is the fact that Lorna has no idea who the deceased woman is or whether or not she is to blame for the apparent murder. Since she was taken from her family at the age of 15 and locked up in a convent, Lorna has suffered from severe episodes of sleepwalking. Lorna gave birth to her daughter Agnes there, but she was taken away from her shortly afterward, and Lorna has never found out what happened to her.
Detective Colman Akande (McCormack) is already hot on her trail for something completely unrelated to the murder. Colman’s drive and talent has helped him quickly advance in the Garda Sochána. His biting wit belies a deep melancholy, and after meeting Lorna Brady, he is finally forced to face his own spectral demons.
Colman is on the hunt for a killer, while Lorna is looking for her missing daughter; their paths cross in surprising ways. Lorna and Colman’s search for Agnes will lead them into the depths of their own memories and into the centre of Kilkinure’s deepest secrets.
Dark and revelatory
The Woman in the Wall is a unique, stirring, and revelatory detective story with dark humour that will soon air on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. The production of the series was supported by Northern Ireland Screen and took place in Northern Ireland. Paramount+ and SHOWTIME will co-broadcast the show in the United States, and it will debut on Paramount+ in Canada, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and South Korea. Paramount Global Content Distribution will distribute the show in more foreign territories.
