“MaryLand” Series Premiere on PBS: A Portrait of Sisterhood and Reconciliation, May 6, 2024
The brand new series “MaryLand” premieres on PBS on Sunday May 5, exploring the complex dynamics of sisterhood as estranged sisters Becca and Rosaline navigate their mother’s sudden death and hidden life.
“MaryLand” centres on two estranged sisters, Becca and Rosaline, whose lives are upended when they receive news of their mother Mary’s death on the Isle of Man. The series, co-created by Suranne Jones, explores the complexities of family dynamics as the sisters grapple with their mother’s secrets and their own estranged relationship.
In the series premiere, Becca and Rosaline, polar opposites in their life paths, find themselves reunited due to tragic circumstances. As they fly to the Isle of Man, a place they’ve never visited, they are confronted with the mystery of their mother’s secret life and the realisation that they knew very little about her. While navigating their grief, the sisters must also confront their own secrets and the life-changing consequences of their mother’s decisions.
Starring Suranne Jones (“Gentleman Jack”, “Doctor Foster”) as Becca and Eve Best (“The Crown”, “House of the Dragon”) as Rosaline, “MaryLand” boasts a powerhouse cast. Oscar-nominated Stockard Channing (“The Good Wife”, “Grease”) portrays Cathy, the mother’s larger-than-life friend, while Hugh Quarshie (“Silent Witness”) and Dean Lennox Kelly (“Shameless”) round out the supporting cast.
