The new season of HBO Original HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE NEW YORK JETS (8/8) will mark the 18th edition of the 18-time Sports Emmy(R)-winning series, which follows camera crews embedded in the Jets’ training camp in Florham Park, N.J. to chronicle third-year head coach Robert Saleh as he prepares his team of young emerging stars and prominent veterans, including four-time NFL MVP, A.J. Green.
The personal and professional lives of the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s are the focus of the second season of the HBO Original Drama Series WINNING TIME: THE RISE OF THE LAKERS DYNASTY (8/6). The focus of this season is on the years following the 1980 NBA Finals all the way through 1984, when Magic Johnson and Larry Bird met again in a professional basketball game for the first time since their epic Finals matchup in 1980.
In the second season of the Max Original comedy series RAP SH!T (8/10), Shawna and Mia, two old friends from Miami, reunite to form a rap group after a long separation. Shawna and Mia are at a crossroads in their careers as rap artists, debating whether to remain authentic or give in to the pressures of the industry.
The football prep program industry is examined in the HBO original documentary BS HIGH (8/23), where careers and reputations can be made and where the hopes and futures of young athletes are on the line. Fans and viewers were left wondering about the legitimacy of the Bishop Sycamore High School program and its head coach, Roy Johnson, after a nationally televised high school football game between top-ranked IMG Academy and an unknown Bishop Sycamore High School ended with multiple injuries on the field and a 58-0 blowout win for IMG Academy. The film delves deep into one of the most fascinating stories to sweep sports in recent memory.
Fionna, a courageous swordswoman, and her magical best friend and talking cat, Cake, star in the brand-new half-hour Max Original young adult animated series ADVENTURE TIME: FIONNA & CAKE (8/31). The ten-episode series will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios and will focus on their dynamic as well as the mysterious country of Ooo. Fionna and Cake, aided by the former Ice King, Simon Petrikov, set out on a journey of self-discovery and adventure as they hop from universe to universe. Meanwhile, a formidable new adversary who is out to find them and wipe them from existence waits in the wings.
SUCCESSION, THE WHITE LOTUS, THE LAST OF US, BARRY, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, 100 FOOT WAVE, and more have been nominated for a total of 127 Emmys between HBO and Max’s 17 original series. Next month, the entire second season of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (8/21), which won an Emmy(R), will also be available on the platform. Eight Emmy nominations were recently announced for the show’s second season.
