“Wednesday” Returns with a Darker Twist for Season 2

The enigmatic and witty Wednesday Addams is set to grace our screens once more as Netflix prepares to release the second season of its hit show, “Wednesday,” in early 2025. With production currently underway in Ireland, the supernatural mystery series promises to deliver an even darker and more action-packed chapter in the life of the iconic Addams Family daughter.

Starring Jenna Ortega in the titular role, “Wednesday” became an instant phenomenon when it premiered in 2022, wowing audiences worldwide and becoming Netflix’s second most-watched English-language series launch of all time. The show’s success propelled Ortega to global superstardom, and she has since been nominated for multiple prestigious awards, including the Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Ortega, who has embodied the essence of Wednesday with her distinctive walking style, posture, and newfound skills in fencing and cello playing, is eager to explore new depths with her character. In an interview, she expressed her desire to see Wednesday “get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe.” This sentiment aligns with the show’s overall shift in tone, as it moves away from teen romance and leans further into horror and action.

The first season of “Wednesday” captured audience attention with its intriguing mystery and quirky characters, and the upcoming season looks to build on that success. Joining the cast for this new chapter are veteran actors Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Joanna Lumley, Haley Joel Osment, Christopher Lloyd, Frances O’Connor, and Noah Taylor.

Behind the scenes, the series is helmed by the visionary director and executive producer, Tim Burton, who has praised Ortega’s performance, stating, “I related to the character so much… [but] it could not have been done without [her]. She’s a very special talent.” Burton’s distinctive style and expertise in blending horror and comedy make him the perfect steward for bringing the world of the Addams Family to life.

The exact release date for the new season of “Wednesday” has not yet been announced, but fans can expect more torturous fun in early 2025.

“Wednesday,” Season 2, will air on Netflix in early 2025.
