Production Begins on STAR TREK: SECTION 31 Starring Michelle Yeoh
Paramount+ has officially announced the start of production on STAR TREK: SECTION 31, an original movie event featuring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh. In this highly anticipated project, Yeoh will reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, a character she portrayed in the first season of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The movie follows Georgiou’s journey as she joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets while confronting her own past mistakes.
Joining Yeoh in the cast are Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman expressed his excitement about the start of production, stating, “Thrilled to report principal photography has started on STAR TREK: SECTION 31. We welcome our incredible cast of new characters as they join our beloved Michelle Yeoh on her next wild adventure across the ‘Trek’ universe.”
Omari Hardwick is widely known for his lead role as James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick in the hit series Power, which earned him critical acclaim and multiple Image Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. His impressive resume includes appearances in films such as The Mother and Army of the Dead.
Kacey Rohl has made a name for herself through roles in series like Hannibal and The Killing. Her standout performance in White Lie earned her recognition at TIFF’s Rising Stars platform in 2019.
Sam Richardson gained popularity for his role as Richard Splett on Veep, receiving Emmy nominations and winning an Emmy for his work on Ted Lasso. He has appeared in numerous films and television shows, showcasing his versatile talent.
Sven Ruygrok, a dynamic South African actor, is recognized for his role in the Spud film franchise alongside John Cleese. His other notable works include City of Violence and The Empty Man.
Robert Kazinsky has had a prominent presence in both film and television, starring in projects such as Captain Marvel, Hot Pursuit, True Blood, Pacific Rim, and Warcraft.
Humberly Gonzalez has been making waves with her roles in hit series like Ginny & Georgia and Jupiter’s Legacy. Her performances have also impressed audiences in films like Nobody and Slumberland.
James Hiroyuki Liao is known for his diverse range as an actor. He has appeared in acclaimed series such as The Dropout and Barry, along with notable films including Snake Eyes and Battle Los Angeles.
Written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, STAR TREK: SECTION 31 boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers including Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Michelle Yeoh herself. Produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
