Shogun: Crimson Sky, April 16, 2024, FX
In the penultimate episode of Shogun, Mariko (Anna Sawai) arrives in Osaka for a pivotal battle, while Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) face dwindling options as they fight to save their own lives.
The episode, titled “Crimson Sky,” is written by Rachel Kondo and Caillin Puente and directed by Frederick Toye. It airs on FX on Tuesday, April 16.
Based on the novel by James Clavell, Shogun is a historical drama set in feudal Japan during the early 17th century. The series follows the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds: John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor, and Lord Yoshii Toranaga, a powerful daimyo facing political rivals.
In the upcoming episode, Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, finds herself in Osaka, the center of the political conflict. Meanwhile, Blackthorne and Yabushige, facing threats to their lives, must make desperate moves to survive.
With war looming, Toranaga has devised a strategy known as “Crimson Sky,” a bold plan to take down the Council of Regents and seize power for himself. However, Toranaga’s army has been weakened by a devastating earthquake, and he must join forces with his half-brother to have any chance of success.
As the series builds towards its climax, the stakes are higher than ever. Will Mariko, Blackthorne, and Yabushige survive the treacherous world of feudal Japan? Will Toranaga’s “Crimson Sky” plan succeed, or will he fall to his enemies?
Don’t miss the penultimate episode of Shogun, airing on FX at 10:00 PM EST on April 16, 2024.
