Summer 2023 Shows for The CW Network

The CW has announced a robust slate of new scripted and unscripted shows set to premiere in the summer of 2023.

Later this summer, The CW will premiere RUN THE BURBS, a family comedy from Canada written and directed by “Kim’s Convenience” breakout star Andrew Phung and starring a talented and diverse ensemble cast. Also joining the network’s scripted slate is the critically acclaimed dramedy MOONSHINE, about dysfunctional siblings battling for control of the family business. The second season of BUMP promises even more laughs, and FAMILY LAW, starring Jewel Staite and Victor Garber, will please fans of legal dramas.

The over-the-top extreme cooking competition RECIPE FOR DISASTER and the four-part docuseries GREATEST GEEK YEAR EVER: 1982, which chronicles a classic year in film and popular culture, are both new unscripted programs airing this summer. In addition, new seasons of returning alternative series GREAT CHOCOLATE SHOWDOWN and MYSTERIES DECODED will premiere on The CW, and the network will debut DOWN TO EARTH WITH ZAC EFRON, which follows the Emmy®-winning actor’s travels around the world. The broadcast times and dates for each of these shows are still to be determined.

In addition to the comedic newcomer SON OF A CRITCH and the dramatic newcomers THE RISING (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT) and BARONS (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT), these upcoming summer series will premiere on Monday, May 29. In addition, the series finales of both RIVERDALE and NANCY DREW will air simultaneously on Wednesday, August 23 (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT).

Coming up on the scripted series front

BUMP (Season 2)

Olympia (Oly) Chalmers-Davis (Nathalie Morris, “Almost Paradise,” “One Lane Bridge”) is the protagonist of BUMP, an Australian comedy-drama series about a high-achieving 17-year-old student who has everything planned out until she learns that she is pregnant. Season 2 finds Oly and Santi (Carlos Sanson Jr. ) getting to know each other better, contemplating their future, and learning just how much family can mess you up after your expectations of what life is supposed to be have been shattered.
Created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro, BUMP stars Claudia Karvan, Nathalie Morris, Carlos Sanson Jr. and Angus Sampson and is produced by Roadshow Rough Diamond (“Romper Stomper,” “Les Norton,” “Australian Gangster“) with John Edwards (“Love My Way,” “The Secret Life of Us,” “Offspring”), Dan Edwards (“Romper Stomper,” “Australian Gangster“) and Claudia Karvan (“Love My Way,” “Doctor Doctor,” “Spirited“) serving as producers.

FAMILY LAW (Season 2)

Abby (Jewel Staite) has been practicing family law for six months after completing her probation at her father’s firm, but her marriage is in shambles. Meanwhile, Harry (Victor Garber) has made Daniel (Zach Smadu) a partner, but is he prepared to share his business with his son? Daniel, in search of acceptance, pursues a free-spirited woman who is so not his type… Perhaps she’s not, though. And Lucy (Genelle Williams) is staying at Joanne (Lauren Holly) in an effort to mend fences with the pregnant Maggie (Ali Liebert), all the while getting under Joanne’s (Lauren Holly) skin. In Season 2, Abby and her messed-up family help out other messed-up families while also dealing with their own issues.
Produced by SEVEN24 Films and Lark Productions for Corus Entertainment’s Global (Canada), FAMILY LAW is created, written and executive produced by award-winning author Susin Nielsen (“Degrassi“). The series is executive produced by SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall (“Heartland“) and Tom Cox (“Fortunate Son“), and Lark’s Erin Haskett (“Motive“) and Andy Mikita (“Stargate SG-1“) serve as executive producers.

MOONSHINE

Written by Sheri Elwood (“Lucifer”), MOONSHINE is an epic story about love, family, and lobster that takes place against the backdrop of poverty, local politics, and a dark family secret that could destroy the Finley-Cullens forever. Bea and Ken Finley-Cullen, played by Corrine Koslo (“Anne with an E”) and Peter MacNeill (“A History of Violence”), are the parents and owners of The Moonshine, their own little paradise that is starting to become a nightmare if they can’t decide which of their flawed brood is fit to take over the business. Rhian, played by Anastasia Phillips (“Reign”), is the often-overlooked younger sister of Lidia, played by Jennifer Finnigan (“Salvation”), who wants to redevelop and exploit the valuable coastal property so that she can finally shine and overcome past disappointments.
Other family members include Lidia’s sister Nora, the sexy local DJ, who knows all the family secrets and is played by Emma Hunter (“Mr. D,” “Fridge Wars“); Alexander Nunez (“Avocado Toast“) as Sammy, Lidia’s musically gifted adopted brother who holds secrets of his own; and Tom Stevens (“Wayward Pines“) as aging party boy Ryan, Rhian’s twin, who is running his own (illegal) business out of the resort. The series is produced by Six Eleven Media and Entertainment One (eOne). Elwood also serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Six Eleven Media’s Charles Bishop. Jocelyn Hamilton is executive producer for eOne.

The Pham family is a strong unit that overcomes the stresses of suburban life as a whole. Because phamily is unbeatable when everyone pitches in. Andrew Phung (“Kim’s Convenience“), who co-created and executive produces the series with Scott Townend, stars as stay-at-home dad Andrew Pham. Rahkee Morzaria (“What We Do in the Shadows“) stars as Andrew’s free-spirited entrepreneur wife Camille, Zoriah Wong (“Nancy Drew“) as their teenage daughter Khia, and Roman Pesino (“Odd Squad“) as their clever young son Leo. RUN THE BURBS is a CBC Original Production produced by Pier 21 Films and distributed by Fifth Season.

MYSTERIES DECODED (Season 3)

Jennifer Marshall is a former U.S. Navy officer turned private investigator who, in the groundbreaking documentary series MYSTERIES DECODED on The CW, has investigated everything from time travel to historical hauntings, monsters, and government conspiracy theories. In each episode, Marshall gathers a team of experts to investigate the scene of the crime, using cutting-edge equipment, tips from eyewitnesses, and the bread crumbs of newly discovered evidence. MYSTERIES DECODED is from MorningStar Entertainment and executive produced by Gary Tarpinian, Paninee Theeranuntawat, and Cyle Zezo.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER

Three celebrity chefs and their cooking companions compete in each episode of RECIPE FOR DISASTERS to see who can make the most impressive dish under the most ridiculous of circumstances. Every week, our studio is transformed into a surreal new world full of themed disasters that put our chefs to the test in ways they never thought possible. They will try to make risotto in baby jumpers, gnocchi with a chisel and rock hammer while dining with dinosaurs, and sear a steak while trapped on a “sinking cruise ship” in a tropical storm. The fact that their “cooking buddies” are regular people in their lives makes matters even worse. Whose dishes will win the judges over, and whose will fall victim to the ludicrous disasters of the day? Only one group can win the title of Masters of Disaster. Produced by 3Bird Media, RECIPE FOR DISASTER is executive produced by Jennifer Twamley, Andrika Lawren, and Cyle Zezo.
