“Two for One,” April 6, 2024, Turner Classic Movies Premiere

Classic movie lovers are in for a treat as Turner Classic Movies (TCM) announced a new limited series called Two for One. The series will feature 12 nights of double features curated by iconic filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Patty Jenkins, and Spike Lee. Each director will join TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz to introduce the two films they chose and provide commentary on their cultural significance.

The series promises to be a fascinating exploration of cinematic history with behind-the-scenes stories, reflections from the directors, and insights into how these films have influenced others. According to Ben Mankiewicz, “In these double features, these 12 directors lead us on an insider’s journey through cinematic history.”

Two for One is set to air every Saturday night beginning April 6 at 8 PM ET. The premiere episode will be hosted by Martin Scorsese who selected Blood on the Moon (1948) and One Touch of Venus (1948). Olivia Wilde follows with Auntie Mame (1958) and Grey Gardens (1976) on April 13.

Other exciting pairings include Paul Thomas Anderson’s selection of The Bad News Bears (1976) and Bugsy Malone (1976), Rian Johnson’s picks Trouble in Paradise (1932) and Jewel Robbery (1932), Spike Lee’s choices A Face in the Crowd (1957) and Ace in the Hole (1951), Patty Jenkins’ lineup consisting of The Fisher King (1991) and Synecdoche, New York (2008), Steven Spielberg’s pairing Jailhouse Rock (1957) and Forty Guns (1957), Ethan Hawke presenting The Gunfighter (1950) alongside Gun Crazy(1950).

David Byrne will bring A Matter of Life and Death (1946) together with Wings of Desire (1987). Gina Prince-Blythewood has chosen Central Station (1998) and Fruitvale Station (2013), Todd Haynes is presenting The Go-Between (1971) and Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971), and Nicole Holofcener will showcase Coming Home (1978) alongside The Last Detail (1973).

This diverse lineup promises a blend of classic films carefully selected by acclaimed filmmakers. Movie enthusiasts can look forward to a thought-provoking journey through cinema history, gaining new perspectives on these beloved films.
