“Virtually Heroes” The Lost Roger Corman Movie Streaming on Crackle Aug 1

In August, Crackle will exclusively release the action comedy film Virtually Heroes, a “lost” gem from Roger Corman, featuring a star-studded cast including Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Rob Baker (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Brent Chase (Bosch), and Katie Savoy (Sequestered). The film originally premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival but had since vanished from the public eye. Recently, it was acquired by Screen Media and received a limited release in theaters and through TVOD platforms in late 2022.

What is Virtually Heroes about
Sgt. Books (Robert Baker), a self-aware soldier living in a video game, seeks help from a straight-talking Monk (Mark Hamill) who teaches him the cheat codes of life. Now he can finally break free from the game’s endless battles, take a break from saving the girls at the end of each level, and convince his fellow warrior Lt. Nova (Bent Chase) that not everything in this game world is as awesome as it seems.
Roger Corman says
“What appears at first to be a classic high-octane action film shortly reveals itself to be set within a video game – a bad videogame. The film’s heroes, soldiers Books and Nova, are aware that they are part of an artificial universe, but with opposite outlooks. Books is fedup with the senseless violence and absurd premise of the game; he’d quit if it weren’t for the sexy reporter waiting for him at the end of each level and living the few moments they spend together anticipating what he calls “a lousy, scripted kiss.” Meanwhile, his partner Nova revels in non-stop carnage and searches for a secret level filled with naked women.”
