Fat Friends (ITV 2000-2005, Alison Steadman, Gaynor Faye)
Fat Friends was a popular Kay Mellor drama about the members of a Leeds slimming club. Carol runs the club but the emphasis is on the lives of the people who attend the club. The series, much like The Syndicate, was more anthology series in style with each episode focused on a different slimming club member.
James Corden made a major breakthrough with the series playing Jamie, it’s also the series he met Ruth Jones on (his Gavin and Stacey co-writer) as well as working with Alison Steadman who would also appear in Gavin and Stacey.
The format was also turned into a stage musical in 2027 by Mellor.
