Spark (BBC One 1997, James Fleet, Jan Francis)

Sitcom Spark focused on gauche middle aged Ashley Parkerwell (James Fleet), who following the death of his mother is desperate for a little fun out of life. His sister-in-law Colette (Jan Francis) is determined to interfere in his life, acting as something of a match-maker.

The strong cast also included Alistair McGowan, Anne Reid and Brigit Foryth.

Written by Roy Clarke of Last of the Summer Wine and Open All Hours legend, Spark sadly failed to quite reach those heights and only lasted for one season of six half hour episodes broadcast in late 1997.
