Bergerac: Low Profile (BBC-1 1 Nov 1985, with Beryl Reid)

In Low Profile a major gangster, BJ Farrell, has been spotted on the island by Jim. He is supposed to be over her looking at potential property investments but is really on the island to see his ageing mother (played by the fabulous Beryl Reid). She is being blackmailed because no one on the island knows she is his mother. What she doesn’t know is that the man who is blackmailing her intends to kill Farrell.

Meanwhile Jim is less than happy about having to spend time writing an indepth report on the work that the bureau does as part of a push by Barney to get noticed by the higher ups. Charlie is also trying to raise his profile having hired a PR man to promote his new role.

Quite a lightweight episode, a side plot about a search for sunken treasute doesn’t really go anywhere but the proceedings are given an extra bit of sparkle thanks to an appearance from the always amazing Beryl Reid.

Jim has made himself very cosy at Susan’s apartment.
