Bergerac: Relative Values (BBC-1 13 Dec 1981, with Warren Clarke)

In Relative Values, when his wealthy father Henry is taken ill in mysterious circumstances, businessman Philip Bernard asks Jim to investigate. Philip is convinced that Lisa Reynolds, his father’s housekeeper is deliberately trying to get rid off him to get her hands on his money. When Henry later dies and Lisa is sole beneficiary it looks like Philip might be right.

Jim, even when Barney produces evidence that suggests that this is not the first time one of Lisa’s charges has died and left her money, remains unconvinced. Jim, along with Charlie (who wants to buy Henry’s house to redevelop the site), thinks it may not be so simple.

Warren Clarke takes the lead guest star role here with the fabulous Geoffrey “Catweazle” Bayldon as his father. There are a few familiar faces amongst the supporting cast too besides Bayldon and Clarke. Lynda Marchal is better known under her writing name of Lynda La Plante and gets one of her strongest acting roles here whilst John Carlisle, who pops up as seafood wholesaler was a prominent player in the 1960’s and 70’s especially his lead role in New Scotland Yard. Doctor in the House star Geoffrey Davies also has a fairly prominent role and there also appearances from Fiona Victory, Sally Farmiloe and Doctor Who companion Maureen O’Brien.
